TORCELLO was one of the most famous and important islands in the north lagoon with  numerous factories working metal, wool and glass.  It had three churches, 12 parishes and 16 monasteries, together with numerous villas and palazzi.  It was a bishop's see and residence of the civil and religious powers of the "old families".  In that period (600) it had about 40,000 inhabitants.

The monuments to visit include the famous cathedral dating from 239, the Church of Santa Fosca, Torcello Museum and numerous ancient artefacts in the square, including an ancient marble seat known according to legend as ATTILA'S THRONE. A visit steeped in history in the undisputed reign of the plants and animals of the lagoon.
